Experience

Beautiful!

Spray Park is the favorite of many Mount Rainier National Park hikers.  It offers beautiful flower covered meadows with the Mountain as a spectacular back-drop.  With many easy roaming ridges and short side trails, you can spend hours exploring the area.

The trail starts behind the Mowich Lake campground.  From the trailhead the trail descends 0.2 miles to the intersection of the Wonderland Trail and Spray Park trail.  Take the left fork to Spray Park.

You may want to stop for a short break at Eagle Cliff which is 1.8 miles from the trailhead.  This is a great spot to sit and take in a view of Mt. Rainier and Mowich Glacier.

Eagle's Roost Camp is a short distance past Eagle Cliff.  Currently, this is the only legal camping spot on the trail. The next campground is another 4.5 miles in Cataract Valley Camp.  You need to obtain a Wilderness Camping permit from the Carbon River Ranger Station before you camp at these sites.  The sites offer toilets, food storage poles and water.

Hike another quarter mile past Eagle's Roost Camp to a small side trip to Spray Falls.  This falls is spectacular and gets its name from the unusual amount of spray coming from the falls.

After you pass Spray Falls, the trail will start a steep 600 feet elevation gain ascent to the entrance of Spray Park.  After traveling through the lower meadows, the trail slowly ascends from approximately 5,300 feet elevation though a number of meadows until you reach a 6,500 feet ridge above Seattle Park.  On a clear day, you will have views of Mt. Baker and North Cascades from the ridge.

The trail continues on to Cataract Valley and Carbon River.  If you leave a car at the Carbon River ranger Station, you can make a one-way trip from Mowich Lake to the Carbon River.
