Experience

Very Pleasant

The combination of beautiful scenery, enjoyable boat trip and an abundance of camping options make this one of the finest trips in the state.  The 17.2 mile trail is usually 200 feet above the lake giving you beautiful views of the lake and surrounding area.  The semi-arid terrain is reasonably easy to navigate and provides a striking contrast to the background of Lake Chelan and Cascade mountains.

After a one hour 20 mile boat trip from Fields Point Landing on the south shore of Lake Chelan, you will cross the lake to start your journey from the Prince Creek campground.  Prince Creek does not have a dock so you will depart from the Lady of the Lake II directly onto the shore.

At times the trail will be within 50 feet of the inviting water of Lake Chelan.  At other times the trail winds away from the lake into cool and lush vegetation.  These areas offer a variety of seasonal color and plant life that is a welcome break from the generally hot and dry lakeshore.

The Lake Chelan area can be extremely hot from June through September.  Unless you are accustomed to extreme heat, you should consider hiking this trail in either the spring or fall.   The autumn colors in October can be very beautiful.

Strong hikers can make the 11 mile hike to Moore Point for the first night's camp.  If you make Moore Point the first night, you can easily make it to Stehekin Landing the second day.  Otherwise, plan for your trip to take 3 days or more. In addition to Moore Point, there are campgrounds at Cascade Creek, Meadow Creek and Flick Creek.

If you are interested in a shorter hike, take the Lady of the Lake II to Moore Point and then hike the 7 miles to Stehekin.  This will require an overnight at either Moore Point or Stehekin in order to make the boat schedule back to Fields Point.
