Lake Valhalla's scenic splendour is easily attained from the Smitbrook trailhead. The Smithbrook trail starts with a fairly brisk .9 mile climb before it intersects with the Pacific Crest Trail. Take the left (south) fork to Lake Valhalla. The right fork goes to Lake Janus.
The Pacific Crest Trail goes through the woods with little elevation gain to an open slope that offers a nice view of Lichtenberg Mountain. After a steady .8 mile climb to the ridge overlooking Lake Valhalla, the trail descends 150 ft. to the lake shore.
There are several campsites along the north and west shore of the lake. Campfires are prohibited near the lake.
Drive 4.1 miles east on highway US-2 from the Stevens Pass summit. Turn north (left) onto Smithbrook Road #6700 from highway US-2. Drive 3.1 miles on Smithbrook Road #6700 to the Smithbrook trailhead.
